About the client and the project

INTERCAL Croatia d.o.o. is a private company, part of the Wietersdorfer Group, which has been internationally active in the cement, pipe and industrial mineral sectors for over 125 years.

The focus of this Croatian company is lime excavation and production. There are two facilities in Croatia - Ličko Lešće and Sirač, the latter being the site with the deployed AMR system.

Objective - Implementation of the AMR system for gas consumption

The production plant in Sirač is located in the industrial area of 55.000 m2 where there are 12 gas meters positioned far from each other. Since InterCal is legally obliged to collect data and send it to HROTE (Croatian Energy Market Operator) and HERA (Croatian Energy Regulatory Agency),the company previously conducted manual readouts of the meters on a daily basis. This process would take up to 60 minutes each day and a lot of coordination was needed to find a suitable time for doing the read-outs. Therefore, the company was searching for a better, preferably automatic solution for collecting gas consumption readouts.

There were several obstacles we have encountered. Since it is a lime factory, there is a lot of dust on the field, which means that workers had to thoroughly clean the meters to get the necessary information. Moreover, some parts of the facility did not have an optimal mobile network coverage which can be crucial when connecting to an AMR system.
