But, how does this remote meter reading method actually work?

In this case, Holosys utilizes radio signals which means that radio modules are installed on the meters. In order to have the radio signal registered on one of the handheld devices, first we need to install the Radiosphere software. Then we can use the device for manual import of the readout data or as a unit for collecting readouts from meters equipped with radio modules. If we are using a tablet or laptop along with the HoloAMR, it is possible to configure the Holosys radio modules installed on the meters. Data is sent to a remote location or transferred through a USB cable and can be sorted and used for reports and system control.

This method enables adjusting to clients’ needs in terms of adding/deleting inputs and meters, changing client and meter data and sorting the meters based on different parameters. Also, it is possible to do different types of ‘’tours’’ - diagnostic walk by for maintenance and network control or automated tours for regular meter readouts. Finally, the system needs to enable data transfer to ‘’third party’’ systems for billing purposes.

How to implement a Walk by/Drive by system?

The implementation starts with defining customer needs and creating the source code followed by partial testing after certain functionalities are active. For example, module testing is done along with the system implementation in order to detect system errors in the early stages. Before the system delivery, integration tests are important in order to test the functionalities of different modules.

The system delivery phase is also the transition phase when the client tests the system and sends feedback to the provider regarding system errors.
